Alberta’s grand fortresses are mountains, its moats crystal lakes and rivers that cut through dense green forests. The earth has its druthers here, and fresh air finds no end! Experience nature’s grandeur in the Alberta Rockies!
A tour of Fort Edmonton Park by steam train and carriage shows us Edmonton as it was in the trading post days of the Hudson’s Bay Company. At the Muttart Conservatory, one of Canada’s largest botanical gardens, curious green thumbs will learn about flora from under four glass pyramids.
Jasper and Banff are two of the world’s oldest parks, and many a deep breath has raised the shoulders of those who explore their boundaries. We’ll raft down the Athabasca on a River Float Tour that follows the centuries-old fur trade route. A stop at Athabasca Falls (the most powerful in all the Rockies) and the Stutfield Glacier Lookout precedes a guided tour of the Columbia Icefield. The Icefields Parkway is known as “the world’s most spectacular road,” stretching 230kms from Jasper to Lake Louise, and stepping onto the glacier is a once-in-a-lifetime moment.
Not to be outdone, we’ll walk the 1km Glacier Skywalk that winds under giant glaciers over the Sunwapta Valley to a glass platform 918 ft in the air. Travel to Calgary, where you’ll have a guided tour of Canada’s honky-tonk capital that includes the Calgary Zoo and Heritage Park, Canada’s largest living history museum.
National Parks of Alberta
Jasper is Canada’s largest Rocky Mountain Park, one of the greatest swaths of nature in North America, and a sightseer’s utopia. Clear lakes mirror lush evergreen valleys and towering peaks. Ancient glaciers watch over crashing falls, charging rivers, deep canyons and wildlife. The Jasper Skytram lets you admire this view from up high, but if you prefer a low vantage, The Miette Hot Springs encourages admiration from a pleasant 40°C spa. Nature is outdone nowhere else… except for maybe in Banff!
The peaks of Mts. Rundle and Cascade cut through the sky in Banff National Park, and Lake Louise’s turquoise glacier-fed waters line its floor. Take a gondola up the eastern slope of Sulphur Mountain and enjoy breakfast overlooking Banff, the booming resort town. Observation decks at the summit ridge show off the Bow Valley, where you might see elk and grizzly bears!

Day 2: Guided tour of the Muttart Conservatory, Jasper
After breakfast at your hotel you will have a guided tour of The Muttart Conservatory. This innovative botanical garden sets the pace for plant science and defines Edmonton’s skyline with striking glass pyramids rising from the river valley. Inside the pyramids, three biomes are in the Conservatory’s year-round displays. A fourth pyramid houses creative feature displays, changing up to eight times a year.
This afternoon, you will travel to Jasper National Park, Canada’s largest Rocky Mountain Park and one of North America’s largest natural areas. Along the way enjoy the spectacular scenery including a photo stop at Pocahontas Father Mountain, which looks like an Indian chief with his headdress on. Arrive in Jasper in time for an included dinner at your hotel this evening.

Day 3: Jasper River Float, Picnic lunch at Pyramid Lake, Free time in Jasper
Today you are in for a unique experience as you enjoy a scenic float down the Athabasca River, a designated Canadian Heritage River, in a safe and comfortable, 25 foot long raft that any first timer will enjoy.
After your lazy river cruise, you will be ready for a picnic lunch at Pyramid Lake. The lake is kidney-shaped and lies at the foot of Pyramid Mountain, a natural landmark that overlooks the town of Jasper. You will then return to the town of Jasper where you will have the remainder of the day to explore on your own.

Your adventure begins with a ride onto the Athabasca Glacier in a massive, all-terrain vehicle specially designed for glacier travel. The grand finale to this experience is a stroll on the Glacier Skywalk – a cliff-edged walkway where giant glaciers perch above you and the spectacular Sunwapta Valley spreads out below.
Finish your day in the resort town of Banff, located within the 6,500 square kilometres of Banff National Park. The peaks of Mt. Rundle and Mt. Cascade, part of the Rocky Mountains, dominate its skyline.

Your morning begins with a gondola ride up Sulphur Mountain to the summit ridge, where you will enjoy breakfast overlooking the town of Banff. Multiple observation decks provide views both west and east down the Bow Valley.
Then travel south to Calgary, a cosmopolitan city with numerous skyscrapers. It owes its rapid growth to its status as the centre of Canada’s oil industry. But it’s still steeped in the western culture that earned it the nickname “Cowtown,” evident in the Calgary Stampede. Enjoy a guided city tour this afternoon taking in all the sights, before checking into your hotel.
