Double: $9,995, Single: $11,295

For many, Africa is the soul-stirring adventure of a lifetime. Golden grasses, mountains towering above flat-topped acacias, wildlife in spots and stripes, and surreal Savannah sunsets fill cameras and still breaths.

Drive to Amboseli National Park at the foot of Mt. Kilimanjaro for two nights. This was Hemingway’s Africa, a place of hot plains and grand beasts. An afternoon game drive in the park puts you up close to lions, giraffe, zebras, gazelles, wildebeests, and herds of elephants. Mt. Kilimanjaro fills in the sky behind a landscape of indescribable beauty.

We head north for the Serena Mountain Lodge at the base of Mt. Kenya. Raised on stilts above the forest canopy, the Lodge’s large windows provide sweeping views, and the decks overlook a water hole and salt-lick, which attracts herds of elephant and buffalo. It’s up early for a game drive through the Samburu National Game Reserve, a rugged semi-desert park in the Rift Valley home to zebra, ostrich, giraffe, leopard, cheetah, long-necked gerenuk, and the Beisa Oryx.

Onward to Sweetwaters Tented Camp, a 24,000-acre sanctuary with magnificent views of Mt. Kenya and home to Jane Goodall’s Chimpanzee Sanctuary. Lake Nakuru National Park is famous for pink flamingoes and is a refuge for the endangered black rhino. We’ll finish on the rolling plains of the Maasai Mara Game Reserve. One of the richest wildlife sanctuaries on earth, this is where wildebeest and zebras migrate by the millions.

Maasai Mara Game Reserve

A spectacular ecosystem and the world’s top safari destination, the Maasai Mara National Reserve wins the Wildlife Cup. Conserved above Tanzania’s Serengeti Plains, the “Mara’s” reliable rains grow abundant vegetation for the millions of herbivores who graze here. Thus, the Reserve accounts for an impressive diversity of predators, including cheetahs, leopards, and the highest concentration of lions in the world.

Observe the great Wildebeest migration! From the vast Serengeti plains to the hills of Maasai Mara, over 1.4 million wildebeest and 200,000 zebra and gazelle (hunted by Africa’s great predators, including crocodiles), migrate 1,800 miles each year in search of greener pasture. This is also where you find the semi-nomadic Maasai people. Of distinct custom and vibrant dress, they are known for their red and cobalt shukas (robes), beadwork, and the iconic adumu “jumping dance.” The Maasai are the most authentic tribe in Kenya, and one of the world’s last great warrior cultures.
