British Columbia is a favourite with its vibrant cities, lovely villages, big wild wilderness, and magnificent mountains reflecting off cold glass lakes. Quaint Victoria, with touches of bygone Britain, gives us Butchart Gardens, named by National Geographic as one of the most beautiful gardens in the world. Ferry through the San Juan de Fuca Islands to Vancouver and see the eclectic neighbourhoods of Chinatown and Gas Town (Vancouver’s oldest, and an artist enclave).
Sit back as your travel up the Sea-to-Sky Highway, its sheer rock faces and plunging valleys touching the roadside and filling the large windows. See ocean vistas, dramatic waterfalls, and soaring mountains as we make our way to cozy Whistler, where refined backcountry shops and best-kept-secret food spots enliven the base of the mountain. Our friendly tour director helps you plan your free day to explore Canada’s Aspen!
In Alberta, we stop where North America wears the crown for raw beauty. In Glacier National Park, watch for elk, curly-horned sheep, and grizzlies! In Banff, the thriving town born to service the park (the third oldest national park in the world), take the gondola to the top of Sulphur Mountain, and shoot the river on a Hoodoo Raft. In Lake Louise, enjoy spectacular views of the Columbia Icefields (one of the largest south of the Arctic Circle) on a breathtaking mountain drive. See the best of Canada’s west on this outstanding journey.
Glacier National Park
Glaciers carved this inspiring, ancient place, and people come the world over to stand before its enormity. The “backbone of the world,” the impressive Selkirk mountains (older and harder than the Rockies) dominate Glacier National park. Within its towering arms exist 200 pristine lakes and rare inland rainforests. Under its awesome domain, over a million acres preserve one of the planet’s most diverse ecosystems, including hundreds of species of animals, birds, and fish – some at risk, like the woodland caribou.
In the heart of the park you’ll see how humans have made their mark at Rogers Pass National Historic Site. An engineering feat, the pass is a tribute to the pioneering Canadians who carved their way through the mountains to build our national railway.
This is Canada’s mountain country, designed by nature’s best paintbrush. At sunrise, watch pink-orange peaks rise out of the blue, inviting you to fill your lungs and your camera roll. At sunset, take home memories that last a lifetime!
