Vintage Locomotives
Rail car enthusiasts, rejoice! This tour features three exciting rail journeys on vintage locomotives. Cass, WV, is home to the largest fleet of Shay locomotives, known for their revolutionary geared wheel design that enhances traction. On this ride, you'll experience a variety of stunning landscapes, including forests and mountains, vibrant fall colors, scenic lakes, captivating waterfalls, panoramic lookouts, an S-curve tunnel, and a high bridge crossing.
Interesting History
Dive deeper into American history and learn about the secretive, Cold War era Greenbrier Bunker, hidden deep in the mountainside in the Greenbrier Resort. Plus, tour a historic company town built for the once prosperous pulp and paper industry.
Day 1: Welcome to West Virginia
Enjoy making new friends as you travel through southern Ontario to the US/Canadian border. Marvel at the changing landscapes as you make your way to West Virginia. Get to know your fellow guests during a delicious welcome dinner, then arrive at your overnight hotel for a restful sleep.

Day 2: Greenbrier Golf Course Lunch, Bunker Tour
After a morning’s drive, arrive in White Sulphur Springs, a resort community in southeastern West Virginia and home to the Greenbrier, a world-class resort and National Historic Landmark. Located on the grounds is the century-old, famous Greenbrier Golf Course. Keep your eyes open for well-known golfers while you enjoy an elegant lunch. In the afternoon, dive deeper into the resort’s history with a Greenbrier Bunker Tour. Travel back to the late 1950s, during the escalating tensions between the US and Cuban governments, and discover the story behind the secret facility. Head deep into the mountainside, under the resort’s West Virginia Wing, for a tour of the emergency Cold War fallout shelter. After your tour, check in to your overnight hotel and enjoy a free evening.

Day 3: Cass Historical Museum, Cass Scenic Railroad Adventure, Dinner Show
Today’s journey takes you to the historic town of Cass, an old company town built in 1901 for the West Virginia Pulp and Paper Company employees. Stop at the old Company Store, now home to the Cass Historical Museum & Showcase for a self-guided tour. Learn about the logging and railroad industry and see items and artifacts of Cass. Then it’s “All Aboard!” the Cass Scenic Railroad, the same line built in 1901 to haul lumber to the mill in Cass. Enjoy a ride on a refurbished logging car through the wilderness. Experience a “sack” as you travel up the mountain to the overlook at Bald Knob, the third-highest point in West Virginia, making for breathtaking views and amazing photos. Once back at the station, depart for dinner and a Branson-style show with music from an assortment of genres, plus comedy, and amazing dancers. Your hotel for the next three nights is surrounded by the beauty of the Appalachian Plateau.

Day 4: Green Bank Radio Astronomy Observatory, Greenbrier Wilderness Train
Travel to one of America’s National Quiet Zones to visit the Green Bank Observatory. See how scientists are probing the furthest areas of the universe, to discover unanswered astronomical questions. After an included lunch, board the Greenbrier Wilderness Train for a four-hour excursion into the Greenbrier River Valley. Framed by forested hills on both sides of the river this remote, rugged, unpopulated region is home to bald eagles, osprey, black bears, and coyotes. Have your camera ready! Tonight’s dinner and entertainment is in a beautifully restored Victorian Inn with a twenty-mile view of the scenic mountains.

Day 5: New Tygart Flyer Ride, Patsy Cline House Tour & Tribute Singer
After breakfast, climb aboard one more vintage locomotive for a four-hour journey full of stunning scenery, free-flowing rivers, mountain views, and historic sites. Known as one of the most relaxing mountain wilderness train rides in the United States, your trip ventures to the High Falls of Cheat, an 18′ high, 150′ wide waterfall only accessible by train or foot. In the afternoon, travel to Winchester, Virginia, once home to country music pioneer, Patsy Cline, for a hometown and house tour. Patsy resided here from 1948-1953 and intermittently until 1957 when her singing career began. It proudly serves as a testament to the love of her family, her devoted and influential relationship with her mother, and their drive and determination to launch Patsy’s career. Dinner tonight is in a private banquet room at the historical George Washington Hotel. After dinner, enjoy a Patsy Cline tribute show with all of her famous hits.

Day 6: Corning Glass Museum
In the morning, depart Winchester, VA, and begin the first leg of the journey home. After an included lunch, visit the Corning Museum of Glass, the world’s largest space dedicated to the history, art, and science of glass. Take a self-guided tour through the exhibits and even see a live hot glass demo (schedule permitting). Check in to your stopover hotel, freshen up, and enjoy an included farewell dinner.

Day 7: Travel Home
Wake up and continue the journey back to Canada. Enjoy an included lunch with your fellow travellers before bidding them a fond farewell as we proceed with regular drop-offs.
